First-Rate Knives That You May Want to Add to Your Collection in 2016!
Hello there!
In this article, we’re going to discuss the current trend in the knife collecting market. Limited edition blades are always highly sought and premium quality survival knives, with all sorts of funky shaped handles, overall lengths and blade thickness. The companies realized that the competition was getting fiercer and to compete, they all had to come up with a new, fresh idea. First it was Thompson Brothers Edges with their ‘TBE’ series knives. They started the model years ago with a limited production of a few thousand units, and now the top-grade edition of the ‘TBE Jungle Cutter’ sells in excess of $900.
Tops Knives continued its trend in 2016 by releasing a rather odd-looking hunting knife in the form of ‘Skull Crusher’s Xtreme Blade’, which is crafted with meticulous detail. They made the blade length approximately 9.38 inches and its thickness around 0.25 inches, while its handle is composed of black linen micarta. I hope someday they would announce a limited edition hunting knives set, with premium crafted handles thrown in. Such set would definitely sell like hot cakes. Their ‘Air Wolfe’ hunting knife was one of the hottest picks in various knife publications and online forums

Zac Brown’s Southern Grind has just recently announced that they’ve produced two meticulously crafted knives. The first is none other than the ‘Jackal Knife’, the highest touted hunting knife since the magnificent Elk Ridge ER-052 Fixed Blade Hunting Knife (it has received tons of great reviews on Amazon.com). The other is known as the ‘Grandaddy Fixed Blade Machete.’ High-carbon steel was used as material for the blade and its length is a whopping 11.125 inches!
KutMaster joined the survival knife fun by producing a blade called the ‘Wildfire Camouflage Rescue Knife.’ It’s an affordable yet top-notch survival knife with decent blade thickness and handle material. This knife is selling so well, rumor has it KutMaster will put out a higher-end model. If that is true, then there should be substantial increase in value of the current model. Already out is the ‘JG3’ survival knife by ESEE Knives and unfortunately, at this moment, I couldn’t find out its suggested retail price. ESEE Knives also recently announced the release of another survival knife – the ‘RB3.’ It weighs 6 ounces and with an overall length of 8.1 inches.

Katz Knives added a couple of excellent blades in the forms of ‘Alley Kat 8008 Damascus’ and ‘Alley Kat 8008 Kraton.’ The 8008 Damascus is 13 inches in overall length, weighs 11 ounces and the handle is composed of white micarta. The 8008 Kraton possesses similar blade length and weight, but the handle material is kraton of course. These knives are selling well so I’m sure more survival knives models by Katz Knives are on the way.
Ontario Knife Company started many years ago with its Spec Plus® Series knives, and continued its winning tradition this year by releasing the ‘OKC Chimera Fighter’ survival knife. As of this writing, Ontario Knife Company has 10 different products in its Spec Plus® Series line. One of the best is the ‘SP-5’ Bowie Knife. This knife is black in color, with powder coated finish and a pretty impressive overall length of 15.1 inches. With a decent number of good reviews comparable to other more expensive bowie knives, the SP-5 is a winner, especially considering its under $65 price tag.

COAST added a couple of EDC knives which are already out by the time you read this called LX320 liner-lock folder and TX360 Double Lock Folder. These high quality knives may be limited to a certain amount of units – perhaps several thousand units. Both knives are sure to be a hit, and there is a rumor going around that COAST might limit retail stores to a one case maximum. Remember, it’s just a rumor!
With all these new “high-grade” knives coming out, one may ask where will it all end? Or will it even end? Some of these knives do look great and function well, but they are very expensive, especially compared to the regular knives. However, for now, knife collecting enthusiasts do not mind spending the extra money if they know they are getting a quality product that wasn’t manufactured in the zillions, like the regular issue knives. Have fun adding these new gems to your collection!
