Great Discount Electric Knife Sharpeners
Electric knife sharpeners are very useful to have around in the kitchen. They’re fast, effective, and super convenient. With a tad of practice, pretty much anyone can learn to sharpen dull knives fantastically well via a solid quality electric sharpener. Indeed, electric powered sharpeners are easy to use, but they can be very expensive. Recently I discovered a particular model that has a $300 price tag attached to it…YIKES!!!
However, they’re a few discount electric knife sharpeners out there such as the two models you see below. Now, these are not merely heavily discounted, value for money sharpeners, they are also highly acclaimed and have been rated favorably by dozens of users. I personally own all three models and though none of them are perfect, each one is still worth the money, otherwise, I wouldn’t even bother mentioning them here. Okay, let’s check out the first model…

Chef's Choice 120 Diamond Hone 3-Stage Professional Knife Sharpener

Despite the generous discount, this sharpener is still on the costly side. However, you’ll certainly get what you pay for because this is without a doubt, one of the best electric sharpeners on the market. I really love the space efficient design and how quiet it operates. Additionally, the unit is quite a breeze to work with and the learning curve is not high at all, unlike other sharpeners out there.
The mechanical structure within the sharpening slots keeps the angle of the blade properly fixed. This means you don’t have to figure how to position your knife correctly during sharpening. The slots will secure the proper knife angle, so all you need to focus on is drawing the blade through in the proper fashion, that’s it. Pre-sharpening, sharpening, as well as stropping can all be done with the Chef's Choice model 120.
If you have knives with misshapen and unsatisfactory cutting edges, you could make those cutting edges come back to life via the sharpener’s coarse diamond wheel slot. To obtain a much smoother cutting edge, use the medium diamond wheel slot, and for putting a keen edge to you knives, just use the stropping slot and you’re set.
Sharpening speed is pretty fast. A dull knife that has never been sharpened before should take a couple minutes or so to regain its cutting edge. After the initial procedure, only maintenance sharpening is required and that depends on how frequently you use the knife. In my experience, maintenance sharpening takes about ten to twenty seconds per knife. The unit lets you sharpen the entire blade, from tip right to the bolster and it can sharpen a wide range of knives including sporting blades, serrated blades, and of course straight edge household knives.
Just be sure to read the instructions carefully prior to using the sharpener because if you don’t follow the proper procedure and mess things up, the sharpener may cause some nasty looking scratches on your knives! All told, I’d say this is one of the best discount electric sharpeners available, shame that the unit isn’t capable of sharpening Asian style knives.

Presto 08810 Professional Electric Knife Sharpener
Discount at time of Writing: 15%
I believe this may be the best price electric knife sharpener on the market. The quality is pretty amazing and it only cost about $45. Yes, the price may be on the low end, but the performance is almost as good as some of the high-end sharpeners out there. Like many premium-priced electric sharpeners, the Presto 08810 also has a 3-stage sharpening system. Meaning it has three different slots and each slot serves its own purpose. Not bad for a $45 electric sharpener huh?
The first slot is the coarse grinding slot. This particular slot is very aggressive and will shave off the most metal from your blade compared to other slots. So for this very reason, you should only use this slot for first time sharpening or if your knife is in terribly dull condition.
Second slot provides intermediate grinding. It’s not as aggressive as the first slot thus it’s perfect for slightly dull blade. Basically, if your knife is not overly dull, then put it right through slot two. It’s more than enough to bring that precision edge back to your slightly dull knife.
For a slight touch-up or maintenance sharpening, use the third slot. This one is the honing slot and I use it more often than the first two slots. The slot hones and polishes the blade thus giving it that much sought-after razor sharp edge. Serrated knives can be sharpened as well but make sure the knife is not an electric one and that it’s not serrated on both sides. Only slot two and slot three can be used with a serrated blade.
The Presto 08810 electric sharpener is also easy to use and works rather quickly. Just draw the blade through one of the slots and hold the knife for one second every two inches of blade. Also make sure to keep the downward pressure light and steady. The procedure is really quite simple once you get accustomed to it. However, in the beginning, I recommend you practice using the sharpener with a few cheap knives and read the instructions carefully. Make sure you understand the instructions laid out in the user manual.
I have just a couple of complaints regarding this sharpener. First up is the size of the unit which is not really space efficient. Second, the ON/OFF button is situated in a not so obvious position, thus you tend to forget to switch off the unit after using it. Perhaps the manufacturer should place the button at the top of the unit, next to the blade selector switch.
These are petty issues to be honest, and if you lack the cash to spare for the Chef's Choice 120 sharpener, then you might want to check out this model. It’s a very affordable sharpener because the price is about $40 -$45, plus this 3-stage electric knife sharpener is on 16% discount at the time of writing inclusive of free delivery.
